Angled aerial photos for the work of a municipality

Municipalities assess situations every day that are hard to see in an orthophoto or from the street: a dormer that is not on the permit, an outbuilding in a rear yard, solar panels on a roof, the condition of a facade. With oblique imagery in GEORIZON you do that from your desk, in the same viewer as your panoramas and map layers. It does not matter which supplier captured the imagery: the viewer is independent of manufacturer and supplier, even when the municipality changes provider over the years.

  • Assess roofs, facades and rear yards without a site visit
  • Captures from different years side by side for history and enforcement
  • Alongside base maps, registers and your own map layers in one viewer
  • Every camera type and supplier, also after a change of provider

Applications in municipal practice

Typical questions are: does the extension match the permit, what condition are roofs and facades in, what changed at an outbuilding, and what did this plot look like five years ago. For permits, supervision and enforcement, for keeping base registers up to date and for property valuation, an angled view often answers in one glance what would otherwise take a site visit. Because the imagery is georeferenced, you click a location on the map and get the imagery from all available directions. An angled aerial photo does not replace a formal inspection or a legal measurement, but it helps decide where one is needed.

One viewer for several suppliers and years

Over time, municipalities work with imagery from different suppliers, or receive it through a regional or shared programme. GEORIZON supports every camera type, from Vexcel, Hexagon and Leica to IGI and Track'Air, and imagery from any supplier. A ready-made ingest template is available for each camera type and we always keep the original files. That way the municipality keeps its history when a supplier contract ends.

Connecting to municipal systems

Outside the viewer you connect through the open API or add a derived map layer through WMTS in QGIS or ArcGIS. You manage access per user or per project, so a consultancy or contractor can only reach the area they need. Where people or vehicles are recognisable, the same automatic GDPR blurring applies as for the panoramas. Municipalities such as Nijmegen and Hellendoorn work with their imagery in GEORIZON.
