Oblique viewer
View buildings and objects obliquely from four directions, measure facade heights and assess roofs without having to go and look on site.
An orthophoto shows the roof and nothing else. A panorama from the road shows the front elevation and nothing else. Oblique imagery fills that gap: angled aerial photographs, usually at around 45 degrees and from four cardinal directions, revealing facades, roof planes and rear yards that stay invisible from the ground or from directly above. In GEORIZON that imagery sits alongside your panoramas, point clouds and map layers, in the same frame and the same viewer.
In a conventional orthophoto the image is rectified so every pixel appears to come from directly overhead. That is exactly what you want for a map layer, but it also means facades disappear and tall objects lose their sides. An oblique capture keeps that side. It lets you judge the condition of a facade, whether solar panels are present, how a roof edge meets the wall or what stands in a rear yard, without anyone having to go and look. Because every capture is georeferenced, the link to the map remains: you click a location on the map and receive the matching angled captures from every available direction.
Oblique captures can be measured too, but the geometry differs from an orthophoto. A height along a facade is measured across the viewing direction, where the viewing angle and the distance to the object determine how accurate that will be. We georeference the captures and link them to the height model or point cloud of the same area, so a clicked point resolves to a coordinate rather than a pixel position. For facade heights and roof dimensions that yields usable figures; for work where millimetres matter a terrestrial capture or a point cloud remains the better source. The oblique imagery lives in your own GEORIZON tenant, reachable through the browser without an installation or a licence per user. A situation you find is shared through a direct link to the right capture and viewing direction. For use outside the viewer, connect to the open API or add a derived map layer through WMTS in QGIS or ArcGIS. Where people or vehicles appear recognisably, the same automatic GDPR blurring applies as with the panoramas. Organisations including ProRail (SpoorInBeeld), the municipality of Nijmegen and Kempkes Landmeten work with their imagery this way.
