NavVis IVION Core is the annual platform licence: your scans are processed, stored and viewed in it, capped at 80 registered users and 200,000 square metres, with IVION Processing charged separately. GEORIZON does the same job on a different basis. You pay for storage, by the terabyte per month, and for processing on the trajectory of the recording rather than on the area you covered. Below are both models side by side, with the sources named, so you can do the arithmetic with your own numbers instead of ours.
NavVis does not publish prices. Every edition on navvis.com ends in a request for a quote, so there is exactly one public figure to work from: the NavVis IVION Starter Pack on AWS Marketplace, 30,000 US dollars for twelve months covering up to 100,000 square metres, with each further unit covering another 100,000 square metres. That listing is limited to the United States and notes that additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. The IVION Core product sheet separately puts the edition at up to 80 registered users, unlimited viewers, unlimited sites and up to 200,000 square metres, with IVION Processing available at extra cost. GEORIZON is priced differently: 62 euro per terabyte per month for storage, which is 310 euro a month at 5 TB and 930 euro a month at 15 TB, with volume discounts above that. Processing is billed on the trajectory of the recording. Two different units, so no single percentage can honestly describe the gap.
Take a project of 100,000 square metres, because that is the size the one public NavVis figure covers. In our experience a dataset of that size stays within 15 TB of storage. At 62 euro per terabyte per month that is 930 euro a month, so 11,160 euro for a year, and viewers and clients are included because we do not licence per user. Against that stands the 30,000 US dollars that NavVis publicly lists for twelve months at the same 100,000 square metres, before processing units and before any additional infrastructure cost. Three things to keep in mind when you use this. The NavVis figure is in dollars, so the comparison moves with the exchange rate. It is a United States offer and a European quote may differ. And the 15 TB is our estimate for your data volume, not a measurement of your project. Put your own terabytes in the calculator and the sum changes accordingly.
It would be easy to print a number here and guarantee it. We do not, for a reason that matters to anyone who has to defend a purchase internally. NavVis charges per square metre per year; we charge per terabyte per month. Converting between the two depends on scan density, panoramic resolution and what you choose to keep, and that varies enormously between projects. Any single percentage would rest on an assumption we made about your data, and the first NavVis counter quote would expose it. Price is not usually the reason people move. Three other things come up more often. Access: IVION Core caps registered users at 80, while in GEORIZON the number of people who look at the data does not change what you pay. Scope: indoor scans in IVION live apart from your outdoor data, whereas in GEORIZON the NavVis point cloud sits in the same viewer and the same coordinate system as your mobile mapping, oblique imagery and aerial LiDAR. And continuity: NavVis states that when a System Software subscription expires you can still scan, but IVION Processing will not run and data can only be processed while the subscription is valid. What we deliver leaves in open formats and stays readable regardless of what you decide next year.
