A Velodyne sensor does not deliver a finished point cloud. During capture it streams UDP data packets, normally recorded as a pcap file, containing ranges, intensity values and azimuth angles expressed in the moving frame of the sensor itself. Only once those measurements are combined with an accurate trajectory from your GNSS/INS solution, with the time synchronisation supplied through PPS and NMEA, and with the calibration of the sensor frame, does a georeferenced point cloud emerge. GEORIZON automates that entire chain: decoding, georeferencing, filtering, structuring and publishing. You supply the raw capture and receive a uniform, measurable dataset, usually within 24 hours.
Processing starts by decoding the raw data stream. Every data packet holds a series of firing blocks with range, reflected intensity and azimuth, together with a timestamp tied to UTC through the PPS signal and the GPRMC message from the GNSS/INS. GEORIZON reads those timestamps and combines them with the post-processed trajectory, so that platform motion during a single rotation of the sensor is properly compensated. The return mode in use, whether strongest, last or dual, is recognised and carried through. The result is a point cloud in which every point carries its own position and its own moment in time, ready for measurement and analysis.
360GEO processes data from the common Velodyne sensors within a single pipeline, from the 16-channel Puck variants and the 32-channel Ultra Puck and HDL-32E through to the 128-channel Alpha Prime. That applies both to sensors integrated as a standalone lidar unit on a vehicle, vessel or drone, and to Velodyne scanners built in as the measuring core of another manufacturer's system. Differences in channel layout, scan pattern and calibration are handled per sensor type. Since Velodyne merged into Ouster in 2023 several older series have reached end of life, while the data already captured retains its value. A processing route independent of any single supplier keeps that archive accessible.
Once processing is finished, the dataset is waiting in your own environment within GEORIZON. You measure inside the point cloud, combine it with panoramic imagery and aerial photography, and share the data with colleagues or supply chain partners without licensing additional workstations. Publication runs through the viewer, an open API, WMTS and direct download in widely used exchange formats, so the data remains usable in existing GIS and asset management systems. Faces and number plates can be blurred automatically in line with the GDPR, while AI detection and vectorisation turn objects into usable map layers. Organisations such as ProRail, the municipality of Nijmegen and Kempkes Landmeten work with their geodata this way.
