RIEGL VMX processing without limitations
Process raw RIEGL VMX mobile mapping data into open, ready-to-use point clouds and imagery, without relying on the RIEGL Software Suite for further processing and data access.
A RIEGL VMX system captures large volumes of LiDAR, imagery and trajectory data on every drive. The usual route to a publishable dataset runs through RiACQUIRE, RiPROCESS and RiPRECISION MLS on a high-end workstation, with a licence per user and manual work on every project. 360GEO takes that step off your hands and processes your RIEGL VMX data automatically into a single vendor-independent dataset, typically available within 24 hours in the viewer, through the API, as WMTS and as a download.
The VMX systems are built around VUX scanners that combine a high measurement rate with digitisation of the return signal and multiple echoes per pulse. That data quality stays intact in GEORIZON. We ingest the raw scan data from the RXP stream or the RDB database, together with the trajectory and the imagery, and retain the intensity, echo number and timestamp for every point. We then transform the data into the coordinate reference system you work in and build a spatial index that streams hundreds of millions of points smoothly through the browser. Delivery is in open formats, so the dataset remains usable outside GEORIZON as well.
The accuracy of a mobile survey stands or falls with the trajectory. GEORIZON processes the navigation solution and the scan data in a single pipeline: we tie the point cloud to the post-processed trajectory, align overlapping lanes and repeated passes, and apply an adjustment to surveyed control points where that is required. Filtering of noise and duplicate points follows, along with colourisation from the imagery, tiling and GDPR blurring of faces and number plates. Everything runs as a batch in the cloud, so tens of kilometres of carriageway are processed in parallel without tying up a workstation. New drives are added to an existing project, with earlier runs remaining available for comparison over time.
The VMX portfolio varies widely. The VMX-2HA combines two VUX-1HA22 scanners for 3.6 million measurements and 500 scan lines per second, with a camera interface for up to nine cameras and optional integration of the spherical Ladybug 5+. The VMX-1HA works on the same principle at 2 million measurements per second. The VMQ-1HA is the compact single-scanner configuration, offering 1.8 million measurements and up to 250 scan lines per second on a swivel mounting plate. For rail corridors, the VMX-RAIL deploys three VUX-1HA sensors at 750 scan lines per second. Earlier generations such as the VMX-450 and the VMX-250 remain supported as well. To 360GEO the difference does not matter: every one of these systems ends up in the same data structure, and surveys from another manufacturer can be merged into the same project.
