Open point clouds of billions of points straight in the browser, measure within them, cut sections and share a location through a direct link.
Modern capture quickly produces tens to hundreds of millions of points per kilometre. That is too much to send around as a file and too much to load in one go. GEORIZON therefore restructures the point cloud into a tree with several levels of detail, where the viewer retrieves only the parts that fall within the current view and only at the detail that is meaningful at that zoom level. The result is that a dataset occupying hundreds of gigabytes on disk simply displays smoothly in the browser.
During processing we rebuild the point cloud into a structured form with several levels of detail. Broadly, the top level holds a thin, evenly spread selection of the whole dataset, and each deeper level adds detail within a progressively smaller area. The viewer then requests only what the current view requires: an overview from a distance, the full point density around your viewpoint once you zoom in. Thinning is applied on point density rather than at random, so a slowly walked or driven stretch does not become disproportionately heavy and sparse areas do not empty out unnecessarily. Intensity and any existing classification are preserved, so you can switch in the viewer between RGB, intensity, height colouring and class.
Looking is rarely enough on its own. In the viewer you measure distances, heights and areas directly in the point cloud, and cut a section to assess a road profile, a culvert or a structure. Because the point cloud sits in the same frame as your other layers, you can place it alongside the panorama, the aerial imagery and your GIS layers and compare the results. A situation you find is shared through a direct link to the exact viewpoint, including the chosen colouring and section, so a colleague sees precisely what you are looking at without a file having to be sent.
The point cloud lives in your own GEORIZON tenant, with access per user or through single sign-on and an on-premises deployment where that is required. To use the data in your own environment, download a selection in common formats such as LAZ or E57, or connect to the open API and the WMTS service, for instance to show a derived height layer in QGIS or ArcGIS. The dataset stays usable in your own process without having to be duplicated. Organisations including ProRail (SpoorInBeeld), the municipality of Nijmegen and Kempkes Landmeten work with their geodata this way.
